why is so much attention suddenly being focused on lasix? when i think of issues with the sport, that one has never come to mind.

plenty of other issues have. for instance:

irregular rules across the country. lack of a governing body to keep things uniform. lack of adequate supervision on race day including video monitoring, detention barns, etc. lack of funding to keep up with currently undetectable drugs. lack of real punishment for offenders, too many repeat offenders still having licenses. re-issuing of licenses to people who were banned from the sport, lack of ability to enact punishments because of lengthy appeals. not stiffening fines and suspensions for multiple offenders who treat suspensions as holidays, fines as a drop in the bucket. there are so many things wrong, but the current popular target is a medication that actually has medical uses. what's worse? letting it be used, or banning it even for horses who have a proven need for it?

What I find particularly offensive is the 'slogan' they have adopted:

Let the horse, not the drugs, determine the outcome.

So therefore, every race currently run in the United States is a sham and not respective of the ability of the animal. The arrogance of these people! Thanks for helping the non-racing crowd and reinforcing their opinion that every race is 'fixed' or 'drug enhanced' and indicting every trainer, owner and stable worker ever associated with horse-racing. Yes, there are issues and they need to be dealt with on a case by case basis. But not by this 'ivory tower' crowd.

They have single handedly done more to damage horse racing than all the racefixing scandals, ringers, breakdowns and drug positives put together. It isnt easy to take people with no opinion on something and piss them off so much that they are now enemies of the sport and in some case actively working to eliminate it.

What's most pathetic is the random sentences they have pulled out of research articles, deliberately changing the meaning and outcome.

Put up or hush up. You don't have any bonafides about lasix. And if you are accusing me of falsifying information with your silly little eye roll emoticon, I suggest you be prepared to support that, too.

Face it: you've picked a side in the lasix fight, and that's fine. But the arguments you are repeating to support it are nothing but a house of false cards.

Very well said. Incredible that they use a slogan that completely distorts the issue. If you promote to the public a position that is not supported by any factual or scientific evidence, you will ultimately convince the public it is what you claim. Politicians prove this on a daily basis.

I am astonished that those who are supposed to be the ones who want to promote the sport would indict it without suffiecient proof to warrant it. It is like going to war and adopting the strategy of the French Army.

I'm surprised they didn't wait until the Round Table Conference to roll out this campaign.

If they JC was really concerned about the betterment of the breed, they would be working on setting higher standards for breeding stock, but that would never happen because they are too busy making money off paper tigers.
