Default Another Too-Fat-To-Fly Controversy

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/05/...west-airlines/

And the comments at the bottom make this board look like Sesame Street...

Opinions anyone?

Like the majority quoted in the article, if she fits between the arm rests she's good to go. If not the two should have been allowed to pitch in and pay for a third seat to share rather than both having to buy a seat. Perhaps they could build a form around a chair, similar to what they use to test bag size and hide it somewhere to avoid embarrassment?

They don't say how big the mother was though and I find that suspicious.

I had a similar thought and was going to post it there too:

They should have a seat in a plexiglas box near the check-in line, just like the box they have for "Will your carry-on fit in the overhead?". If the individual sits in the seat and any part of their flab touches the plexiglas box, they buy two seats - period, end of story. If they do not touch the plexiglas, then they similarly would not invade the space of the adjacent passenger, and there is no need for them to purchase two seats. The questions about weight and size of clothing are approximations at best to the real issue which is body volume and whether it affects other passengers.

The mother is in one of the pictures with her in the video on the page, and seems to have similar dimensions.
