Default Warrnambool steeplechase

Did anybody else just watch this race? Yikes!

Edit: well, now they are reporting that three patrons were injured, did go to the hospital, but are allegedly okay. Hard to believe when you watch it replayed - a horse appearing out of the sky and falling on you - but thank god!

What happened was a horse, Banna Strand, lost it's jockey during a crash, and was racing around the edge of the course - it came up to a solid blind brick (now it's said it was a lattice-like material) six-foot wall along the edge of the course and cleared it readily - but landed right into the crowd. The horse left the track, but was found and brought back.

Syndney Morning Herald, screen grab from replay:

Wow, I just saw this. Scary stuff!

Such a relief to hear none of the injuries are too serious.

I can say I was there when this happened

Any sympathy for the people injured? none whatsoever, a bunch of freeloaders that wanted to watch the racing, but didn't want to pay $25..... so they stood outside the track on a road, next time ya think they might pay?

One of them was a very young child, though - doubt it was her decision to be standing there.

Who would have thought a horse would jump that size fence? (quite frankly, I'm extremely impressed with the courage of this horse). I'm sure it was influenced by his running alongside the other horses on course (being able to see them out of his right eye).

I know jumps racing has been under attack in Australia, how is the fallout this week? I am a fan of jumps racing, and I don't want it to be outlawed.
