Default Landslide, Romp, Massacre

To be fair this was the strongest European side of the last 20 years going head-to-head with the weakest US side in living memory.

Hard to pick a man of the week, but I suppose sentiment rules that Clarke, quite a rarity in sport in that he is a genuinely likeable man, must take the honour. He was 3 from 3, and I suppose the only complaint can be that he didn't quite hole the winning putt! Lee Westwood, the other wildcard, was unbeaten in his 5 matches, winning 4pts. Great picks from Woosnam.
Huge performance too by Sergio Garcia, who once again flopped in the singles (albeit with Cink playing a stormer) having won all 4 of his team matches. Anyone else think he could do with an outrider in the majors! Whilst I take on board what Kev says about the guy being hyped, it must be remembered that he is only 26, and it is surely only a matter of time before a major comes his way.
Although it may be that Paul Casey has overtaken him as the blue-eyed boy of European golf. Unlike Garcia, Casey's putting is fearsome.
Monty may have only got 2pts from 4, but he was only beaten by the Woods/Furyk partnership, and then only by 1 hole. He remains unbeaten in Ryder Cup singles, and leads the team like a giant.

As for the Americans, Mickelson once again flopped in a huge way, and there seems little point in the man taking his place in 2 years time as he simply doesn't appear interested when there's no pot of gold at the end of the tournament.
Even losing 2 matches, Tiger still had his best RC in 5 attempts, which isn't saying a great deal as he has still lost 13 of 25 games. The greatest player of all time? Not at matchplay, that's for sure!

I felt JJ Henry and Zach Johnson played well on debut, and are sure to be involved in future cups, but history is likely to show Vaughan Taylor and Brett Wtterich as 2 of the poorest players ever to have competed in the event.

Bring on Valhalla 2008!

Harry, I think the world of you, I really do. I like that we can have these discussions. Believe me when I tell you that this is, but it is not pro-American propaganda when I say the things I do. I am a fan of many Euro's. I would love to see Thomas Bjorn get back in the game. I enjoy Monty a great deal. Faldo was a huge favorite of mine and when people talk about the greats of the past, I hate that they don't bring his name up. The guy won 6 majors (3 Opens, 3 Masters) and lost a US Open in a 18 hole playoff to Strange in 1988 at Brookline. Always been a big fan of Woosie. I appreciate and enjoy the style of golf the Euro's play...it is completely different from the game over here.

Regarding Sergio, please go and read my thread to you on the "Ryder Cup" thread. No need for me to rehash everything I said there, but I have been around the game long enough to know overrated when I see it. I stand by the fact that he is overrated. Im not saying that he isn't a very good player, but he is NO WHERE near the player that people thought he was gonna be or make him out to be now. He may prove me wrong down the road, but I highly doubt it. Unless he grows a heart and a set of nuts, he will be just another average tour player that can hit the ball great, but can't putt when it matters. I took great joy in watching Cink make all those putts yesterday and seeing Sergio getting more pissed off with every putt. It's okay when Sergio does that in team play and runs around acting like a fool thought, right?
He is a FANTASTIC RYDER CUP TEAM player, but in singles and in stroke play, he is just incredibly average.

Tiger Woods match play resume.

3 straight USGA Juniors (winning 18 straight matches)
3 straight USGA Amateurs (winning 18 straight matches)
2003 and 2004 Amex WGC match play champion (which is winning 12 STRAIGHT matches)

His Ryder Cup SINGLES record is 3-1-1 (the half being after he was 1 up on the 18th hole to Jesper, and Tiger GAVE Jesper the hole to call it a match a half after Europe had already clinched the Cup in 2002. So in reality, he should be 4-1)
In no way, shape or form should ANYONE be judged someone based on their Ryder Cup record where you are so dependent on a partner for 4 out of 5 matches for the weekend. Partners play is COMPLETELY different.

President's Cup SINGLES record is 3-1. In those 3 wins he beat Norman, Singh, and Els. His lone defeat coming to Goosen...no shame in that.

Find me another soul with that type of match play record. I know Monty is unbeaten in Ryder Cup singles and that is impressive...but other than that?
