Default Fire kills horses stabled at Riverside Downs

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -- An early morning fire has killed 26 horses
at a western Kentucky stable.
The blaze broke out before dawn Thursday at Riverside Downs, a
former race track not far from the Kentucky-Indiana border.
Baskett Fire Chief Bill Shaw tells the Evansville (Ind.) Courier
& Press that only four horses survived. The barn was destroyed.
Fire officials weren't sure what caused the fire, which was
reported about 5:30 a.m. EST.
It's the second fire this year at Riverside. Six horses died
Jan. 4 in a fire blamed on a vending machine's electrical cord.
A call to a cell phone number for the stable co-owner was not
answered.

how many times is this going to happen there?

2 to electrical, one to arson

The Nov. 20 fire marks the fourth in the past five years at the Riverside Downs facility. A fire last January killed six horses and caused $70,000 in damage to one of the barns. In December 2003, 22 horses died from a fire that swept through a barn on the backside of the facility’s grounds. Both of those fires were thought to be electrical in nature.

The fourth fire, which happened in November 2005, burned the harness track’s old grandstand. Four people were charged with arson for causing that blaze.

and i would imagine this will also be attributed to electrical issues, the third for them. disgraceful. but, at this time of year, you begin to see these things happen with people overloading circuits with space heaters, and using improper extension cords-the cords overheat and cause a fire-and those overheats don't necessarily trip a circuit breaker.

One of the horses was Kept Lady...

... another was Survita.

Excerpt...

...and the Stinson-trained Survita, who captured a race at Hoosier Park Nov. 19. Survita was brought back to her stall at about 2 a.m. but perished in the fire just two and a half hours later.
