I thought it was entertaining and at times Durkin sounds so foolish its funny.
I think hes trying to make up for a weak overall performance this summer at Saratoga and Belmont. Hes lost what made him the best.

Anyone notice he referred to Precious Passion as "the longshot leader" in yetserday's Sword Dancer? Longshot? 5/1? Maybe he was still looking at the morning line of 15/1.

It would've been slightly more bearable had it not prompted every douchebag in the place to repeatedly mimic it and then laugh about it with the rest of their douchebag friends.

Ya, lol. What does that mean, anyways?
I always like his line "and so and so arrives on the scene late"

I'll be honest, I didnt go yesterday and watched the Arrrr race on the replays at 7pm and found myself rooting for him to get in contention just so I could hear Durkin do his thing.

didn't hear that one, but every time I hear him say that so and so jockey is using a "polygrip", i want to puke.

or why does he refer to the rail as "these rails"? how many rails does he see in his binoculars?

I don't know, but I like him, actually met him on Sunday and talked for a quick couple minutes, cool dude....

I understand that hardcore race people aren't 'down' with him, but he fits the type of person that arlington brings in the turnstyles, to a T.....It was a madhouse there yesterday, f'n kids everywhere, a bunch of chicks that you really aren't sure if you are going to go to jail if you start hitting on them because it is petterass material...

a guy i work with was there yesterday, said he hit every race but lost money!
i didn't even ask him how.

JG is a cool dude, i just don't like his calls. this year he now has horses "spinning" into the stretch. he feels he has to keep adding new words even if it doen't make sense. I have yet to see a horse spinning into the stretch.

why is it a tough room when you say the guy is cool but don't like his calls?
you say he's one of the best ever, I know many would agree with you. But that doesn't change my opinion. to me he's irritating in many many ways as a caller.

I'm all behind Durkin and even praise his comical calls like the on on Arrrrr, but he gets ripped by others that don't like it.

Relax big boy. Just having some fun. I'm a big fan of all announcers and it hits close to home when someone doesn't like their work.

No biggie.

i know, but I think most of us have our own likes and dislikes in terms of the individual styles. like anything else, some are better than others.

If Dooley is using "spinning" into the stretch or out of the turn, he needs to hire a writer. That was Phil Georgeff's signature call for 30 years.
