Despite the dearth of talent in today's Derby, there might be some good 3YOs out there, and after seeing Harlem Rocker last week we just saw Biker Boy win pretty impressively against a solid group of older horses in the first race at Churchill. It was just his third start, and second this year, and he provides another ray of hope that this division could get more exciting as the year progresses.

He got a perfect trip, but showed the ability to rate comfortably after wiring the field last out, and won like he might have a good future.

Yeah Andy, that was pretty impressive. I'm still kicking myself about the second race. The #9 Lenawee had piqued my interest. I guess you can close on that track today.

The pace seemed extremely fast.

Is it the pace or multiple moves (or a combination) that collapses races?

Both, as the second usually leads to a fast pace...not always though.

The last few have not been good for closers. Track seems to be getting very fast.

In terms of types, Lenawee ran the same race both times (what I've termed a 'wipeout otherwise'). At KEE, she last moved in a multi-move race; today, she last moved in a fast pace (lack of moves probably due to the field getting run off its feet early).

Are you in agreement, then, given your comment, that the set of 'how' races are run is larger than the quantification of pace set?

Lets see how good Madeo is when he gets to try the dirt.I don't even think he liked the track at Hollywood Wednesday.Smith said he was tired on the backstretch,and he still put them away.Don't underestimate him.The road is littered with people (like Brad Free) that didn't even pick him top 3 on Wednesday.He Just had to take that damn Coast Guard.If you run top 2 or 3 in graded 3 year old races,then why go back into an allowance race? Human activity is not that hard to figure out.Horse was not doing that great,or they wouldn't have put him in an allowance race.All they see is a figure,and they drink that up.I don't know why they like horses who ran decently,and drop down off that.It's almost like the connections are trying to tell ya he ain't doing that well,and they are gunna see just how bad he is doing....I didn't notice Smith dropped the whip.Wait until they go into stakes,and Mike's concentration will get remarkably better.

97. Could have been a little higher but it was tricky, being the first race on a drying out track, and an apparent wind factor.

Thanks Andy...Also kind of strange that it was the only race run at a mile on Saturday with 12 races being run.
