Default Smokey Stover

Really does remind me of somebody(except for Stover's bad starts in 2 out of 3 races.)Somebody give me a reason he is beatable(OTHER THAN A POSSIBLE POOR START.)

I love this horse, really. Probably my second favorite one. It has been brutal trying to find him a race, but this horse has not missed a workout since his last race a long time ago. He is not as fast as Lost in the Fog, but is much more versitile. Although, he does look like him even without the connections. My only concern is why Baze did not make the trip to ride him?

He towers of this group, and if he is 2-1 like his ML, I would bet quite a bit. He was scheduled a while back to go to the withers, and while hes no Bernardini, he should be very solid.

I tend to agree with you... I have found that Harry Aleo doesn't buy many bad horses and the combo of Gilchrist and Aleo is always a "best bet" in northern California. I, too, like this horse... but for those of you that think that NorCal is "weak sh*t", you're right 75% of the time... there are a few NorCal trainers that you need to take a second look at when they travel south (and even when they travel east every now and then). Gilchrist is one of them (also Art Sherman and Jerry Holendorfer... don't put your money on a Ed Moger horse, you'll lose it more often than not). I'm not saying that Smokey Stover will win this race but I plan on using him. I also like Old Man River -- he's a great closer and I've done well with him in the past - just take a look at his last race (I got the exacta in that one).

For those of you betting Del Mar, right now apprentice Martin Garcia is HOT! If you see a horse that you think may have a shot and Garcia is aboard, bet with confidence! He loses his weight break next month so take advantage of him while he's light! Also, he tends to not win when he's on the favorite (not always but enough to ruin a pick 4 where you've singled his horse) but he does amazingly well on horses with oML odds between 4-1 and 8-1.

Just my two cents... do what you want with it.
