Default Caller One

Back again in the 2F Rocket Man at Calder (Race 6). This has been the only race hes run in the last 3 years.

Faces Love My Mountain who just ran in the Summit of Speed.

Any thoughts?

I Love this horse, he's all speed. I remember when he made his 3yo debut at Turfway, he hadn't run since like September and ran in the Hansel Stakes on the Spiral Undercard, he lit it up in 1:08 and change, my buddy and I both looked at each other and said there's the Sprint winner, didn't happen, but still loved the horse. I was at the Breeders Cup at Churchill, when he ran a sub 21 opening quarter, Durkin was amazed you could hear it in his voice...

He ran admirably in the BC Sprint against a tough field. That was back when the sprint division was absolutely loaded. I clobbered him the second time he won in Dubai.

Not sure how this race "sets up" for him.

I mean does a 2F race even "set up" or is it who breaks the best?

expecting sloppy/off at Calder.

Hard for me to like Caller One here. Been too long since he broke well.

What about Zafin here? 3rd of 17 in Agrentina G1. Good trainer, 6-4-0-0-1 lifetime. Won first out and off a layoff. Looks like 8,9 and 11 are the ones to beat here, at least to me.

What about Love my Mountain? Or is it impossible to win from the rail going
2F?

I think it is, especially on an off track. No bigger LMM fan than me, but I can't see him here.

Noticed that too...very strange they can only get him to run a total of 6 furlongs in 3 years ....I used to really like this old campaigner...he was so wickedly quick early on in his career....I bet he can't breathe at all...that is the only thing I can think of....he did too much for them to drop in for a tag (because he is a gelding, obviously) and they probably think he is sound enough to keep in training for this short dash...probably can only breathe long enough to go 2F effectively...

i thought he hadn't run because he had been retired--or was there an injury/issue?

Sorry, I can't get ahold of my friend to ask about the injury question. I do know that she always liked this horse.

I believe he had a suspensory tear, if memory serves me correctly, they even tried the stem cell thing on him, it did not work, like they thought it would. I know a guy that claims to work for his owner, he told me that all he is good for any more is about 2f, so that's why he runs in this every year...

Didn't see it, but from the chart it looks like Caller One ran a nice race. He finished 5th of 14, but missed 2nd by less than half a length.

I haven't looked at many, if any 2-furlong charts. The only points of call are "Stretch" and "finish". It looks like Caller One made up 3 lengths on the 3-5 winner between "stretch" and "finish". Not bad for a 9-yr-old geezer.

He's basically a family pet of the Chapmans that still has it in his head that he wants to run, but the body says no. One of those geldings that loves the track and does not love retirement. As long as it is safe, I hope they enter him in the Rocket Man a few more years.
