Itty Bitty Pretty euthanized
Steve Andersen

Itty Bitty Pretty, the winner of the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes at Santa Anita in January 2006, was euthanized on Sunday after suffering a tibia injury, trainer Doug O'Neill said.

The injury occurred in a morning workout at Hollywood.

Owned by STD Racing Stable and Jason Wood, Itty Bitty Pretty won 2 of 9 starts and $189,768. She had not started since finishing last in the Kentucky Oaks in May 2006. Earlier in 2006, she ran third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.

O'Neill also said that an unraced 2-year-old that he trains suffered a knee injury during a workout at Hollywood on Sunday and was undergoing surgery at Alamo Pintado Equine Clinic in Los Olivos, Calif. O'Neill declined to give the name the injured horse.

I almost hate to get involved in this discussion.

When she was born I spent 5 days 24 hours a day in the barn bottle feeding her....the mare is NI positive so all of her foals have to be bottle fed until she is completely free of colostrum.

I could walk in the barn and as soon as she heard my voice she would start hollering to be fed....we sold her as a yearling in Saratoga and thats the last time I put my hands on her... but this hurts.

what makes it worse IMO is that she was entered in the KEE november sale, and the people who own her mother were planning to buy her (at almost any price), she withdrew before ever hitting the sales grounds....

That's just terrible. O'Neill has had a rough year. Quite a few of his have been injured and/or lost.

Paisjpq, I'm sorry for your loss. You must feel very sad. You must feel a special bond with that horse after bottle-feeding her as a baby.

This is exceedingly sad... Really unfair when she could have been, and probably should have been, in the shed.. Liked her a bunch... Rest in peace..

I'm so sorry.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory.

I was just a fan, but i could see that she was special. I rooted for this girl every time and would always smile when i got her workout notices.

Such a shame..... I'm so sorry.

Paisjpq, I am so sorry for your loss....that story is just heartbreaking.
It's so easy to fall in love, especially after bonding like that in the first week.

Very sorry to hear this, and for everyone's loss as well.

Not that it matters, but has there been any talk or comments about the track condition at Hollywood Park?

Eric
