![]() yes, will someone please now give the eulogy for the bounce theory, and to the idea that horses can't run back to back strong races two weeks apart, or that a big effort in the derby 'guts' a horse so you can't expect anything from them anymore?

I dont care if Hard Spun ran the half in 50 flat, he wasnt going to be near Curlin and SS at the end. His third was like Curlins third in the Derby, nonfactor at the finish. |

![]() Fine work Hossy.
I give up on my poor little horsey CQ. A same finish for the Belmont might not be such a bad thing to say right now. |

![]() I'm not so sure anyone really ran a markedly better or worse race than they ran in the Derby.
Curlin may have been beaten better than 8 lengths by Street Sense---but, his trip was probably 8 lengths more difficult. Street Sense didn't have a trip of a lifetime this time, and he hung late again like he did in the Derby--he ran everybit as well as in the Derby. Circular Quay is a one-turn miler---in both races he was just flat through the lane...and passing everything that was exhusted. Hard Spun didn't run as well as he did in the KY Derby--but, he's a horse that prefers front-running tactics...which he was denied in the Preakness. This was a painfully logical outcome to this race---and I see no one bouncing nor jumping forward off their derby efforts. |

![]() The way I saw it, was here's Hard Spun's choice - move and get ahead of the two he knows are going to be stopping like rocks heading into the turn, or get hung out three or four wide on the turn trying to get around them, then get back down to the rail. The horse was in control of the race at that point, there was a ton of horse there. It may have turned out to have been early, but there was a choice to be made at that point, and I don't see the bad in it. This is an awesome horse.
Curlin - can't wait to see what he is in the fall, when he matures a bit, against older. Ohmygawd ... Street Sense - class act. What an absolutely terrific race!
