Default FLASH: 'Bird' to FL; 'Bold' to IL

Ken McPeek has now decided to run Birdbirdistheword in the FL Derby and Bold Start in the IL Derby.. Via Steve Haskin..

Cited the pace scenario as more favorable for Birdbird as well as feeling better about the ship to Chicago with Bold...

Doesnt matter where either of the horses race. They will have zero effect on the Derby. Neither of them stand a chance.

That's actually good news, since I felt a little nervous leaving Bold Start out of any possible pick 4 or Magna 5 ticket this weekend. I didn't give him a big chance to win, but more of a chance than BirdBird.

I had Bold Start as a betback horse. He probably should've won his last race at GP; he lacked room and then had to cross over heels to get to the outside and still ran 2nd to the Team Valor horse. Since he's a betback and the O'Neill runner is a bet against next out, I'm looking forward to the Illy Derby.

Yes it does matter! We are talking about a G1 and a G2. These races matter for the same reason that all G1s and G2s matter. Not everything has to be about the Kentucky Derby. Some of us actually enjoy the sport on days OTHER than the first Saturday in May, so for us, which horses are running in G1s and G2s actually matters quite a bit.

Again, it doesn't matter. Neither of these horses are going to win their next race. I enjoy racing all days of the year. But this time of year, trainers are getting their 3 year olds ready for one race and that race is all that matters right now. BirdBird is a nice horse and Bold Start is a nice horse as well. But neither of them stand a chance in their next start.

Would not give up on Bird just yet. Give him one more. And where they run does matter, especially if one of them gets in the money and knocks a potential Derby candidate out due to earnings. Both of these horses are capable of that

Hmmm... I had to quote this post so that IF one of these horses happens to win, you will eat crow.

Birdbird is a very nice colt... he's definitely got a shot and Bold Start has been working awesome.

The Florida Derby is a million-dollar, G1 race. I would say that is fairly important, so your suggestion that it doesn't matter at all (since you said the Kentucky Derby is "all that matters right now") seems odd.
Your opinion regarding whether or not these horses are going to win their races is what truly doesn't matter at all. The fact that they are entered in these races could potentially change the nature of the races, even if they don't win. Also, they don't have to win the races to get the graded earnings required to enter the "all-important" Kentucky Derby.

Since you don't know who they are running against, that's an absurd comment. Cobalt Blue certainly is mortal and I definitely think Bold Start could get the best of him.

I wish I knew. I would venture to say that there are going to be six numbers anywhere from 1-56.

I like Birdbird. But look who he is facing in the Florida Derby. Very very tough task at hand for that horse in that race. Bold Start I think has a bright future ahead of him. But I do not think he is ready for a horse like Cobalt Blue.

I will eat Crow Cajun. Out of the two, Bold Start has the better chance of winning.

I am saying it doesnt matter where BirdBird or Bold Start races. Flip Flop them, send BirdBird to the Arkansas Derby, send Bold Start to the Bluegrass - send either horses in any KY Derby prep race and neither of them is going to win. This is my point. It really has nothing to do with the KY Derby. It has everything to do with the fact that these two horses are not good enough to win a KY Derby prep race.

I have a pretty good idea who they will be facing. Unless there are some huge scratches then neither of them wins.

Well, I suppose you can understand how we were a bit confused when you began your contribution to this thread with the lines quoted above. And then said:

There are two seperate thoughts. One thought states it doesnt matter where the run next. The next thought pertains to the Derby. I can see how it was confusing.
