![]() Just got off the phone with my betting partner and we are going to take our first stab tomorrow. I will not bore you with the details, just the problem I have incurred.
Is it really worth it? We are matching $50 on a pick 4 tomorrow and I am sitting here scratching my head as to whether this really is worth it. He wants to single a race and I don't think its a logical single, etc.. Maybe I am better off just making my own plays? I am on average a $50 to $70 bettor per week depending on the cash flow etc.. I hate to sink my budget into a ticket I am not confident in, although I respect his knowledge and capping skills. How do you guys roll? |

![]() If you're a $50-$70 better you do it for the enjoyment, not to make a living. A big hits nice but do you really want to risk it over 1:12 or 1:42 time period. Cahnces are yo are going to loose.
I'd spread your money over several races, maybe doubles etc. if you want to go for a bigger payoff. Last, why partner if you're not going to agree? It's fun on occasion but you're not talking about some bg syndacate. Get a buch of people together if you want to do that. That's mt $0.02. Spyder from SC

![]() I don't do them often, just for the BC with some friends for a pick-4. It's all give and take.
For example, this year my mom (yes she is included) argued with me all the day before about having Miesque's Approval on the ticket. We all told her she was acting like a fool and we left him off. For the Turf, I was the only one of our group of four who wanted Red Rocks, and we left him on because I wouldn't budge. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Obviously, you won't see every race eye to eye, but there is some give and take involved in pooling money. I think it takes the very right kind of personalities matched to make these work. If you stick with his single and it loses and you hit 3/4, you'll be mad. If you push him to add another horse, and drop 2 other horses he likes in another leg and you hit 3/4 missing the now shorter race, he's mad. I only do them with really good friends of mine who all want to get in together to maximize our chances but won't stop talking to each other if it heads south after the first race (ie, i got one "i told you so" after the mile, and that was that.) |

![]() I say keep your bets to yourself.
I hate talking about a race before I or we bet. How often do you get talked out of making your bet only to have it happen. Your first instincts are usually correct. I know it doesn't do any good if you wait until after to explain how you hit... but seriously you want to bet what you think. I lost some monster payouts because instead of betting them I talked about them. after I complained about it my uncle said, "something something..., you just wanted to talk about it" I know going in on a pick 4 helps your chances of covering... I just wonder if it would put a strain on the relationship if you talked him into something opposite of what he was(n't) thinking and it turned out he was right and should have never listened and vice versa for you

![]() I would:
- stick to myself. if you're not on the same page this early in the deal, ... - $50-70 is fine for a budget for a week. And if you want to just have fun with it, wager however you like. But if you're really trying to win, that level is probably too little to be playing p-4's or even p-3's. I'd think about playing 60%-70% of your bankroll on a few races betting win and small exactas and the rest on Daily Doubles. good luck. |
