Default Buckpasser/ Silver Charm

"The only "flaw" in Buckpasser was his attitude toward racing. He would race, and he certainly did race when a horse passed him, but once on the lead, he would slow down...as if just doing enough was enough. Because of this he provided many a fright for his trainer, not to mention the betters. It almost seemed part of his manners, seldom to defeat a rival so badly it might break his or her heart."

Silver Charm would run like this. He would try to just hold his nose in front. Only problem was he thought he was bigger than Free House and he wasn't (a couple times anyway) I still don't know how Silver Charm managed to hang on and win the Dubai World Cup.

The point is.. after all this time Buckpasser passed on the trait of only running as hard as you have to.

What a great horse Silver Charm is. Here are some pics of him in Japan. He's getting a little grey in his old age.

Can't believe it's been 10 years since Silver Charm first caught my eye at Santa Anita. The Santa Anita Derby was one of the greatest losing efforts I've ever seen from a 3yo in the spring. Chased a suicide pace and came again to just miss to Freehouse. He's one of my favorites all-time for the will to win.
