UNIQUE BELLA

Be Still My Gray-Horse Lovin Heart! WOW

Anyone think she may run in the DERBY?

So Far It Appears She Heads for OAKS

But it would be a thrill to see her in the Derby!

I liked how Mikey let the runner up horse get to her in the stretch and then nudged her to get her to burst her speed to the wire....smart guy, trainer's jock

At this point, Jerry Hollendorfer seems committed to a Santa Anita Oaks/Kentucky Oaks route. In order for that to change, she would need to get some Derby qualifying points by running her next race in a point earning prep such as the Santa Anita Derby, also on April 8. He's given no indication that that's in their thinking.

The current Derby qualification process makes it much more difficult for a talented 3 year old filly to enter the Ky Derby. You just can't decide at the end of April whether you want to enter the Oaks or the Derby; it requires planning a campaign that runs against the colts during the prep season.

No doubt, Unique Bella is an incredible race horse. However, she can be a bit of a head case, like her dam was. So was Beholder in her younger years. Remember how Beholder threw a hissy fit at the gate for the KY Oaks?

Unique Bella is a handful. Anyone see her antics while training in the walking ring, she needed TWO men handling her. I'm anxious for her going to the KY Oaks with all the people and noise, etc. Hope she gets some cotton in her ears ala Zenyatta.

Yet look how well Mandella trained and conditioned Beholder! I am confident Hollendorfer will get UB to calm down and be more focused. Next year, when she is more mature, will be a good year to tackle the boys.

Thumbs up

She seems to be so physically imposing. She also seems to know that she is very capable. They should really go to the Santa Anita derby. She is really big and thick and strong, kind of like winning colors. I think that's the kind of filly you can take a shot with. She looks smooth and powerful. I like how she pushed other fillies out of her way when needed room. Imagine if she ended up in the Alabama Stakes after last years treat of seeing the mighty Songbird.

"They" are already throwing out comparisons to Songbird and Zenyatta, maybe because of Mike Smith. Beholder is next. So much can happen but she appears to be in good hands and they're setting her up well to progress into maybe something very special . . . again. We've been very lucky to see so many wonderfully talented fillies/mares in the last several years. And I loves the ladies!!!
