Be careful. It seems to be common practice for Darley to geld before entering for a tag.

That used to be an old time thing that still exists today. From how it was explained to me, the attitude was that they weren't going to be embarased.

NY and CA are the only jurisdictions that really try to be accurate. I had a horse that I gelded as a yearling. I think I got him to the track (PHA) late in his 2YO year. I think he bucked. But he was listed in the program as a colt. So I went over to the paddock judge (I guess that's who he was) and told him that my horse was a gelding. He looked at his papers and said "You're good". And then I showed him my DRF and he said that would probably change. It never did. He ran to like 6 or 7 and was always a colt or horse in the program.

I sent one horse to AQU years ago and he was 6 and was reported as a first-time gelding. He was a gelding for 5 years.

So I like the DRF idea, but think the date can be misleading. I don't think it's deceiving but other states report differently. Some uniformity would be good

This is my understanding as well.

I'd like for Thorograph or Beyer etc. to conduct a study of what the speed number decreases (Beyer increases) first and second race after being gelded and split it among 2yr. old-3yr. old and older horses.

I'd also like to see horses 'weigh in' the morning before each race and make the weights public.

Relativity Factor in GP's 3rd race at 8-1ML looks interesting for a first time geld. Especially considering the favorite has done his best on the lawn and for some reason is entered on the dirt.

Poor Come On Charlie works more than a NYC carriage horse entered off a 6-day rest after running 25 times last year.
