This is vintage Novak. He has been outspoken about the US backing Israel for a long time. He is a kind of Pat Buchanan conservative, imo, about foreign policy. And that policy is that we should basically keep our noses out of foreign affairs all around the world. He and Buchanan also expressed a great deal of concern about going into Iraq. I would say Novak and Buchanan are as close to modern day isolationists as you find these days.
My view is that both of these guys would have never entered WWI or WWII. I think Vietnam had a profound effect on both these guys. Buchanan was working in the Nixon Whitehouse and he did not agree with Kissinger on many things, or at least he has said so.
