Default Storm Cat and Chef-de-Race

Can someone explain to me as to why Storm Cat is not on Dr Romans list of Chef-de-race horses? I am not too familiar with Dr Roman and everything that he writes so a little education would be appreciated.

If you find the time, read his website (primarily the articles) they offer some good insight and 'brain food' whether you agree with the theories or not. My favorite article is; "They Don't Make Them Like They Used To" One criticism of the chef-de-race list is that it is so rarely updated. The addition of Buckaroo and Pleasant Colony, see link below, does provide an explaination of why they were added.

Thanks Sightseek. I have been reading and it is very interesting to say the least. But I am still dont understand why Storm Cat is not on the list. I think he has had an impact on the breed. Not sure if he would be a I, C or S. But that isnt for me to decide.

Within a few years of his death, im sure Dr. Roman will add him to the list. He has left an impact and has been the premiere stallion of his day.

More importantly though, some stallions such as Alleged have been ignored by Roman. Would love to know the reasoning behind that.

Does the horse have to be dead in order to be on the list? And I also agree with on you Alleged. I also wonder if Forestry will get on the list as well. He seems to be making an impact as well.

Well I just found out that the horse doesnt need to be dead. I saw Sadler's Wells on this list so I found the answer.

from the website:

>>>Contrary to a misconception held by many critics of Dosage, the selection of a chef-de-race is not necessarily an affirmation of a superior record at stud. That chefs-de-race usually emerge from among prominent sires is generally true because prominent sires are more likely to generate sufficient data for an accurate analysis of their aptitudinal influence through one or two generations, directly and through sons and daughters. <<<<

Sounds like a bunch of doubletalk to me, but you get the idea...

This is all good info but to me this is kinda like capping a race after they have run it. Always an excuse for the loosers and lets move the winners up. The excuse they always use is the everyday capper dosent understand the "smart people". This is more of a match up tool for breeding but a worn out tool for capping races. It fails as often as it produces the winners. Dosage is realy more of a guage to prove who cant more than who can.
