Default 1/2 Decade: still no OTB's in New Jersey

The plan is laid out in off-track wagering legislation passed in 2001
that allows for 15 facilities to be built throughout the state.
Though none is open yet, three have been approved:
in Vineland, Woodbridge and Toms River.
While some towns welcome the prospect of economic growth
and a new form of entertainment, residents in other towns
-- including Woodbridge -- are nervous about the facility
and its effect on their township's reputation.

Yeah like Woodbridge should worry about its reputation. Wasn't Jim McGreevy the mayor of that town?

Woodbridge (NJ) Mayor Jim McGreevy, 44, is the next Democratic Governor
of New Jersey, beating former Jersey City Mayor and GOP candidate
Bret Schundler by 56 to 42 percent in the November 6th gubernatorial election.

It was the second run for Governor by McGreevy who lost narrowly
to Christie Todd Whitman four years ago and will become the state's
first Democratic Governor since 1989. Whitman is now Administrator
of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

I can't believe the casino lobby will allow an OTB in its midst! They will probably pay the construction crew to stay home. I bet that place will never be finished. This is Jersey after all.

Still, maybe they'll do it right in Jersey with all the time they're taking. The Turf Club in downtown Philly, for example, doesn't have much atmosphere. The food is overpriced and comes in increasingly smaller portions, and the service is sometimes surly. But who am I kidding -- I don't really go there to eat, anyway.
