Default Gulfstream Park - worth visiting?

I'm heading down to Florida on a business trip in a couple of weeks and was wondering if Gulfstream is worth visiting these days...

I haven't been there since the late 90s and I remember there were a lot of complaints when they first unveiled the new version. I know there are supposed to be some improvements for this year, but overall - does GP still qualify as a must-see place for a New Yorker to spend a relaxing day at the races in the dead of winter or are those days over with now?

I can't stand it, and loved the old Gulfstream, but honestly you should at least check it out for yourself. What's the worst thing that will happen....you'll be warm?

I'm staying in Miami Beach...I can be equally warm lying on the beach or at the pool too - with much better views!

I go many days in the winter without betting so it's not like I "need" to visit a racetrack or that I make sure to do so whenever I'm away. It's more a case of is this a special place the way Hialeah used to be or Del Mar might be, or am I not really missing anything if I take a pass on it?

If there's a track nearby, it is ALWAYS worth a visit. I don't think there's a track in America with an admission fee high enough for a horse player to think about not forking over the $$ to get in for a race, or two.

Just go see the place, enjoy a race, and wander around. Have a drink, or a bite to eat, or just go hang out in the paddock. If after a couple races you've had your fill, go find some other fun stuff in Miami for the rest of the afternoon or evening.

The mere fact that you are on this board and asking this question seems to me to guarantee that you should go visit Gulfstream for awhile.

I would.

:-)
