Jim Hannon, Track Announcer RIP at 92
Sad to report that my favorite track announcer Jim Hannon has passed away. It was wonderful growing up listening to Jim. Everyone knew Big Jim Hannon. He was a hossplayer too. Nothing better than if he bet the hoss you bet and you got the big call on him when he was gonna win. He had great sayings and always called the winner of the race correctly and more importantly, last. Before the race when Jim said “they’re at the post” , you knew how long you had to get a bet in. When they were moving into the gate, he would say waiting on....and then the last 2 names. Jim used to host a radio show where he would give the results for the day as well as the live call of the last race, Sponsored by Kitty’s restaurant ( owned by a hossplayer, and foot clocker ) When he retired from race calling, he was a teller up on the third floor. He never said no when anyone asked him for a “Now they’re all in !” it was good for the soul to hear him say it. He loved the track and loved racing. If you were ever out of town at the track, or anywhere cool, if you yelled Now they’re All in, Boston people would look up, so you see where they were and who they were. A legend is gone. And Cozy Talk will make every pole a winning one under Donald Meade Jr.
