Default Classic Matchup

It won't happen but who do you think would win the BCC with Discreet Cat drawn in. I think a healthy DC takes it based on him destroying Invasor earlier and the fact his competition (while not great) has been better than Bern or Lava Man for that matter.

Personally, I think that Dubai race was pretty suspect. I'd put my money on Bernardini over Discreet Cat in the BCC.

I think Discreet Cat is the best horse in the world currently. But at 10 panels, I'm not sure. At a flat mile I can't think of another horse that could beat him.

I'd try to beat DC if he drew in. I know he's won once at 9F, and he's ahelluvahorse, but I think his very best distance is 8F. In a race of this magnitude at 10F--I'll take a stand against.

Default I'd say.....

It's a shame that matchup won't take place, especially on BC day. If it could have happened, I'd say you may have had to seperate them by their nostrels. They both have looked so impressive this year, that would problably come down to a bob at the wire. The distance could be a factor for DC, but it would be a great race.

At ten furlongs Bernardini would defeat Discreet Cat.

I honestly think he'd beat him at 8 or 9 furlongs too...

I think so too. Looking at the type of fractions Bernardini faced in his last few races, DC would run away from him. The Sheiks probably know this too.

I don't believe that Bernardini has ever HAD to run those faster fractions... why run a 23 second quarter if he doesn't have to? I'm extremely interested in seeing how Bernie does in the classic, as I think that he's going to have to run faster fractions than he's had to in his previous starts.

I'm not sure which horse the Sheiks think is better... my gut tells me that they're not sure, because if they were, I really think they'd run them both in the BCC. IF they did that and Bernie lost, it'd be bad news bears, but it would be one hell of a race if they did.

I am not exactly sure why a lot of people seem to think that Discreet Cat would not be able to handle 10f.
His dam, Pretty Discreet, was a G1 winner going 10f.
His broodmare sire, Private Account, was a multiple G1 winner going 10f.
I suppose this perception is because he is by Forestry - who was a bit of a tweener - but Forestry was out of a Pleasant Colony mare, and Pleasant Colony sired predominantly routers.
Of course, you never really know what a horse will do going 10f until he does it, but when you add the way he looked going 9f to his pedigree (particulary the more important dam-side) it seems like he could be very effective going 10f.

Huh?! So Rumspringa, Valid Notebook and Nar are better than Sweetnorthernsaint, Brother Derek, Bluegrass Cat, Wanderin Boy, etc.?

Wow.

And the Invasor that ran in Dubai clearly was not the Invasor that's been winning G1s in America..

I would go with Discreet Cat at any distance because I think he's the better and faster horse.

I think I got DC's comp mixed up with Henny Hughes comp but that being said ALL the distance horses in the handicap division have avoided each other this year.
