Default Bustout Brooks is Back

People might remember Gerald Brooks as Scott Lake's one-time top asst trainer at the NYRA circuit.

When Lake was suspended, Brooks saddled future Breeders Cup Sprint 2nd place finisher Thunderello to a 2nd place finish behind Mayakovsky in a track record setting 5.5f baby race on opening day at Saratoga.

http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbP...try=USA&race=3

Brooks was invisible until recently -- and he has only started 3 different horses at Presque Isle this meet. They've all performed eye-brow raising well.

* This horse -- off of two terrible races since leaving Shuman -- won clear and paid $29.80 off of the long layoff:

* This horse who is in tomorrow -- a 6-year-old North Carolina bred who Hugh McMahon couldn't even get to run -- just missed at 45/1 odds in his PID debut for Brooks.

* This horse -- a 15-time maiden off of a bunch of zero Beyers -- was a clear 2nd at 67-to-1 odds today and didn't miss by much.

So far, a $29.80 winner -- and two 2nds (45/1 and 67/1 odds) from three starters here for Brooks. A lot of 30-point type improvements.

It will be interesting to see if he's found an edge.

Coastal Dreams in the M/L chalk at 5/2, does this mean unload the bankroll on him, or play against?

I would say Coastal Dreams is a pass. I picked him 3rd in that race.

However, I'd keep an eye out for all of the other Brooks horses who show up and make their first start of the meet at PID. Like Trojan War on the 24th ... even though that one is a former Ness.

I've had luck this meet doing the same with a trainer named Tom Cooper -- who had a small stable and moved them all WAY up here last year -- while somehow winning at 31%.

There was a first-time Tom Cooper horse named Unspoken Code who ran on opening day. I picked her to win the race and made her my best play of the day and she finished 2nd at 34/1.

The next day, Cooper had one of his insane move-ups from last year in named Make My Day. I picked him on top and made him the days best and he paid $26.60

Another first-time Cooper -- off of a 2-year-layoff with an impossibly hopeless form -- was 4th at 46-to-1 last night.

Doug I'm just curious, do you ever get any kind of feedback from the Erie locals who read/follow your picks? I honestly don't follow Presque Isle, but the information that you post here about the track is gold.

When I'm at the track a dozen or so people will come up and talk to me. Not much feedback by E-mail.

There is a local high school teacher from a county school that E-mails me a few times every meet with questions...but that's about it.

I see Cooper has 2 in tonight. On Coastal Dreams race, were your first 2 pics Terlinguas Gift & Scipio Africanus?

Is Terlingua making a comeback?

She was such an exciting runner! I hope she comes back sound.

Yeah -- Coastal Dreams just romped by 4 lengths at odds of 1-to-2 after the early scratches of the two favorites.
