Default 2/26: Santa Anita ($704k C/O)

Santa Anita carryover spun out of control Wednesday as favorites fell race after race, right through the entire sextet. The tricky sequence turned out impossible to negotiate because even if you caught a surprise like Headache ($19.40) in the opener, you likely couldn't find room on your play for a Sunny Peace ($11.60) in the 5th or Broken Record ($15.00) in the maiden claiming 6th. And even though Real Fancy Runner finished off the board in the feature to next likeliest winner Air Fair ($12.00), how were you supposed to get to Paddlin Mud ($46.40) in the nightcap?

So, the results have produced a $704,000+ pot for Thursday, and the skien has a remarkably similar feel to yesterday's affair. Expect the pool to soar past $3,000,000. Hope you did OK yesterday as there was some success to be had in the early P3 ($340) using the tabs, though I myself was beaten up most thoroughly. Let's dig in!

SANTA ANITA

POST-SCRATCHES

3rd: MDN CLM, 3yo, 6f (P6, P3, DD)

Most Likely: #3 Defense King 2-1 3rd
Best Value: #5 Just Heat 7-2 2nd
Next Best: #1 Vague Notion 5-2 4th
Exotics Use: #7 Rochelle's Jimmy 10-1 WON

4th: ALW/N1X, 3yo, 8.5f (P3, DD, Super)

Tough ALW heat... Not entirely convinced #1 Herr Mozart turned the corner in MDN win last, and am inclined to pass on #3 Jeranimo stretching out of his diploma score..

Most Likely: #6 Active Duty 5-1 7th
Best Value: #7 African Gray 12-1 4th
Next Best: #1 Herr Mozart 7-2 5th
Super Add: #5 Advice 6-1 3rd

5th: MDN CLM, 3yo, 6f (P4, P3, DD, Super)

Most Likely: #5 Cold Ruler 9-5 4th
Best Value: #2 Haughty Topper 4-1 WON
Next Best: #7 Eddie the Hat 7-2 3rd
Super Add: #6 Cole's Favorite 4-1 6th

6th: Cal-bred MSW, 3yo, 6f (P3, DD, Super)

Howie Zucker cuts favored #10 Charlie and Chris back a half furlong here, a move that rarely seems to work. Obvious as 'most likely' in field of barely raced types, but I'm dubious about him with 'bore out' notation especially disconcerting..

Best Value: #5 Mountain Guide 15-1 4th
Most Likely: #10 Charlie and Chris 5-2 2nd
Next Best: #9 Tamarack Smartly 7-2 5th
Super Add: #6 Spendamillionbux 6-1 6th

7th: OC/N2X, 4+, 9f-T (DD)

Frankel's favorite looks like an obvious single, but note that Motion's #2 Slam Dunk was quite OK in North American debut, and isn't far off the HollyPark Derby place pony's Racing Post Ratings on his best..

Most Likely: #7 Midships 3-5 4th
Best Value: #2 Slam Dunk 8-1 3rd
Next Best: #4 Icemancometh 6-1 2nd

8th: MDN CLM, 4+, 6.5f (Super High 5)

Most Likely: #8 Pacific Halo 9-5 4th
Next Best: #5 Judge Kent 3-1 2nd
Best Value: #4 Gold Stock 12-1 5th
Exotics Use: #10 Winterscore 12-1
High 5 Play: #3 Smart of War 12-1 WON

<$300/<$150 P6 Plays:

3: 1-3-5
4: 5-6-7
5: 2-5
6: 5-6-9-10
7: 7
8: [5]-8

3x3x2x4x1x2 = 144 x $2 = $288 (For $144 play, single 8 in 8th race)

<$75 P4 Play:

5: 2-5-7
6: 5-6-9-10
7: 2-7
8: 4-5-8

3x4x2x3 = $72

Good luck!
Steve

1-3
1-4-5
1-5-6
1-5-6
2-5-7
3-5-7-8-10-12

alot cheaper if you single the 7 and 8 in the last 2 as Steve pointed toward...
however while the 7 in the 7th is pretty secure..... The 8th race could be the carryover whammy waiting to happen....

Good luck...

My actual ticket with 3 others....

1,3 / 1,5 / 1,5,6 / 1,6 / 7 / 3,5,8,10 $192 50 bucks a piece...

kinda scared of the 12 in the last... trying to work together a saver....

edited after scratches....

Would somebody be so kind as to post the scratches here as I'm at work and the filters will not allow me to see them.

Thanks

Anyone give Major Rock Star a chance in the 4th if he can clear Jeranimo early? Or is he up against it today? Class hike off of the trainer switch is an angle I like.

I am still smarting from not adding Mi Carola to my $1 ticket. Also forgot to type that I played Hill's charge in the feature and Haps ALphabet Soup in the 'cap to win for $15 a piece. Would have had a most enjoyable day had Our Friend Harvey gotten up and would've pulled the trigger in teh 4th at SA. (wasnt willing to eat those odds on the horse in that spot..should have though.) Damn split tickets...
