Default Brown Back to Green?

Iavarone is saying that he'd like a return to the grass for Big Brown's next race. He's saying he'd like to get a race around 9/13 with him and even though there's no races that would seem to fit the bill for BB at that time, he expressed confidence that a track would make up a race in order to get him because of the popularity of the horse and how it would increase business at a track for him to be there.

Why couldnt he run in the Grade 1 Man o War at Belmont? The timing would be perfect and so would the turf to synthetic move going into the BC.

no, I think they are looking for a Sunday Break type of race. Paid workout and if he drifts out and interferes with half the field no problem.

Run in a grass race - no real damage if he loses.

Run in the BC Classic on a new synthetic surface - built in excuse if he loses.

2 more races, no real risk to his reputation even if he loses both. Talk about the path of least resistance.

Gotta love the state of racing today...

I would think Big Brown could be a real threat to wire the field in a race like the Man O War. It would depend on what Euro horses show up but in a year that the BC is in warm California, I doubt the best Euros have their sights set on the BC, thus eliminating the need to run at Belmont for a prep.
From what I have seen in the turf division, I just dont see this being that far fetched. Better Talk Now, Grand Courterier, Red Rocks arent exactly killers.

He really dosent have much of a reputation anymore. Even though he won the haskell it was a less than stylistic showing and it did nothing to give anyone the idea that he is anything more than a nice horse. His stud value (fee) only increases if he does something noteworthy like beat Curlin or win the Classic. Winning a grass race is immaterial because US breeders generally wont pay much for a grass sire and the Euros arent going for a BB type. The only way BB salvages his "reputation" is to do something like beat Curlin. He is going to be 3 year old champ not matter what happens but running in some made up turf race wont do anything for him.

It really is sad for the fans that it's going to end up this way. Despite Dutrow's comments, they don't want to face Curlin on a dirt surface where there would be no excuse. Curlin's schedule is out there, Tricky. Step up and put your money where your mouth is.
