![]() Nice looking debut win at Belmont today for a half sibling to the freakisly talented Discreet Cat.
Came from well off the pace to win by about 12 easy lengths. |

![]() Half to Discreet Cat and Pretty Wild crushed his opponents in his debut today at Belmont. The time was nothing spectacular and he got a hot pace to run into, but he broke badly, appeared to be a little green, yet won by double digits and looked like he could've done three more laps around the track.

![]() I will be surprised to see this horse win another race on the dirt provided the track is fast. If anything, he will prove a turf horse. First of all, you have to assume that a half to Discreet Cat would not have been entered on the turf for its debut if the connections really felt he was a dirt horse. Also, look at him, he's a grey which probably means he takes after his sire, El Prado, more than his dam which makes him more likely to be a turf horse.
I hope this horse makes his second start on the dirt at Saratoga, and the track is dry, so I can bet against him with confidence.

I completely dont get the bolded. Need some help. Because he is the same color as his sire, he must be more like his sire in other ways also? Is that what this means? If so, it is horribly wrong, even with the probably. |

![]() The man likes to be right.
He has been handicapping and betting for years, and is obviously very good at it. So I guess it does no harm in righting a very obvious wrong. I dont think this complete lack of understanding in what we know about heredity now, has created a problem thus far. A real renaissance man. Its hard to learn "new" ideas when one gets older, I have experienced this. Or maybe one of my favorite quotes might apply here: Do not attempt to reason a man out of something he did not reason himself into. An interesting side note is there are 3 big reasons why male offspring should be more like their mothers(dams) genetically than the fathers (sires). No links required. Just science as we know it now, not caveman stuff. Last edited by pgardn : 07-06-2008 at 12:17 PM. |
