Default Joe Torre and horseracing

In today's paper, the AP story on why Torre turned down the Yankees' offer has this interesting line:

"With more free time now, the 67-year-old Torre said he'd like to attend some big horse races and perhaps take a trip to Wimbledon."

Sounds like a Breeder's Cup visit. If so, I hope ESPN doesn't miss it.

You didn't leave any time for them to show Hank Goldberg slobbering all over himself.

still beats the derby coverage, with repeated interviews with self absorbed celebs.

Joe, you were offered $5 million . It's a little tiresome to here you complain about an offer that gives you the highest paid managerial job in baseball. Joe, you have lost your sense of reality and you are not the boss so take that and shove it. You do whatever you want but you do not own the Yankees. Go cry somewhere else dude.

Didn't mean to get into a baseball discussion, but...

Guess what, dude! Despite what Steinbrenner et al might think, money isn't EVERYTHING. Some people are smart enough to realize that they can get along on less than $5 million/year if someone values the work they do.

How could anyone not understand that the offer was incredibly insulting? Its not the 5 mill outside of the fact that he got his team into the playoffs and now has to take a paycut. Its more the of the fact that it was an incentivized contract for only 1 season. Do you realize what that can do in a clubhouse? Who can do a job effectively knowing that the hook is always there?

Steinbrenner could insult me 24/7, kick me in the nuts, bitchslap me in the middle of Yankee stadium and fart in my face for $5 million.
