an article in todays democrat gazette about the charges....some snippets:

he's charged with a class c felony, could face 3-10 years in prison and /or 15k fine. expected to turn himself in in the next few days.

he tested positive for opiates, benzodiazepines, a tranquilizer used to treat anxiety, and painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone.

he claims he feel asleep at the wheel. two witnesses said they saw him driving erratically, and at a high rate of speed.

the victims nephew filed a wrongful death suit last month.

norman is also serving a six month suspension, and is barred from all tracks til sept. 28. this was due to two of his horses hafing excessive levels of total carbon dioxide during the jean lafitte stakes last nov. 3.

Finally, finally, finally, facts come out. I can't speak to the "special treatment" aspect which many people eluded to. I am very glad that the facts have been brought forth because contrary to what many people thought or hoped for, you cannot convict someone based upon rumors, accusations, and BS.

Wow, 7 drugs at once...

Is this OxyContin what Rush Limbaugh was addicted to? Hearing more and more about this drug it seems.

Cole Norman's name is plastered all over Oaklawn. What's the significance of that pavillion in the infield that has his name on it?

The one with the horse statue in the center of it.... just curious.

OxyContin was the same pain killer Rush Limbaugh was hooked on.

wasn't norman involved in an all-terrain vehicle accident just a few years ago that almost parlyzed him ? the meds could be to relieve continuing pain from that...and maybe he has other problems that the anti-anxiety meds help...it is so tragic this happened.

Yes, Cole Norman had an ATV accident. He avoided terrible and permanent injuries.

sadly...a topic I am too familiar with.

Not sure if he is on the meds for pain or just simply addicted. Combined with the booze....not good at all.

I don't envy him at all....easily could have been in the same shoes.

A very sad state of affairs. Unfortunately I have had loved ones addicted to oxycotin. It is commonly referred to as "Hillbilly Heroin". Jorge Lara has done pretty good with Norman's horses.
