Default Arromanches!

Merry Christmas old boy. I am thinking of you on this beautifully mild Christmas and wishing you a peaceful day on the farm.

You gave us all memories we will treasure for a lifetime.

From a cached TT 3/10/03 article in google search. Link is dead, though. He since moved to Indiana.

Arromanches to stand in West Virginia

Arromanches, a stakes-placed winning son of Relaunch, will stand at Cyndy O'Bannon's Beau Ridge Farm near Bunker Hill, West Virginia, for a stud fee of $500. Nicknamed the "gray win machine," the ten-year-old won 31 of 78 career starts and earned $807,924 during a career that spanned eight seasons.

Arromanches won ten races in a row during a nearly eight-month stretch from May 2001 through February '02 at Monmouth Park, Belmont Park, and Aqueduct. He finished third in the 1998 Paumonok Handicap at Aqueduct and won his 31st race on October 18 at Belmont Park by stopping the clock in 1:09.09 for six furlongs.

"We looked at his past performance and almost could not believe this horse," O'Bannon said. "He's gonna offer speed and soundness."

Arromanches raced for the last time on December 7, 2002. He finished second in a $16,000 claming race in which Mitchell E. Friedman claimed the horse for Rosendo G. Parra.

Bred in Virginia by Burning Daylight Farms, Arromanches is out of the stakes-winning Sauce Boat mare Perfect Roux.
I have a win composite of Arromanches in my collection, and have such high regard for this horse, I keep it in the front of my album with the win pics of John Henry, Lady's Secret, Cigar, etc.

Nice picture of Arromanches. That was when horse racing was fine. Horses actually ran.

Don't forget Chindi! (Only 17 wins in 78 starts, but he was running with graded stakes horses his entire career - won the Count Fleet (G3) at 4, placed in open stakes races at 10). Bet on Sunshine had higher earnings than either (thanks to his thirds in the BC Sprint) from only 47 starts, 22 wins.

I immediately thought of Chindi when I read the article. I think he was owned by a couple of doctors who lived in Hot Springs so he was a regular at Oaklawn. I saw some of his races there.

Say Florida Sandy was a nice horse, overachiever for sure, but not in Arromanches league, at least as far as winning goes.
