Default Oaklawns Slots and Checks to Gov't

The story is in bloodhorse and the link is below this post. $81,000 was paid to the state between the time period of Nov 10 to Nov 30. $6,800 was paid to the city and $2,200 is going to be paid to the Country of Garland. These numbers are quite large if you look at them over a period of 1 year. This is great for the city and the people of Oaklawn.

The money from these "games of skill" is going to wonders here at Oaklawn. Opening day at Oaklawn is only 4 weeks from tomorrow. I cant wait. Speaking of that I read an article in the local paper here (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) that said that Holthus is going to run Officer Rocket in the feature on Opening Day. Its a 6F sprint called the Dixieland. I didnt get to see the Jackpot, but I remember looking at the charts and seemed like OR was up close to the pace and faded. Is 9F too much for this horse?

Bill Lantrop's research gives him a conduit profile of 10-2-3-3-8. This suggests that he should be able to strech out to 10 furlongs. Horses with similar profiles include Seattle Slew and Smarty Jones. That said, I don't believe that Officer offers enough class to compete at a distance in graded stakes.

Ah Oaklawn. I remember back in the day we'd load up ten deep and spend the weekend partying our arse's off. I had my biggest hit of my life there live in person back in 1998 on opening Day. $92 winner we all had it and went Ape $hit crazy the whole weekend. It's a wonder noone died. My friend the Breadman delivers to the track kitchen still so I should have some live ones this year again for us. Two of my buddies Hot Walk for William Fires so we should hear the backside talk also. My one friend might get to work for Cole Norman's crew instead because of his supension. That would be great because we'd finally learn what's in his milkshake recipe.

Good ol' slot money to keep a track going. They pumped $80M into my greyhound track here, though most of that was for a gaming floor and services to casino game players. Still, they did upgrade the Kennel Club area for simulcast and dog players.

I don't think Officer Rocket wants any part of 9 furlongs. He might be able to beat a very very weak field at 9 furlongs because he is a classy horse. But with competition on the same level I dont think he can win. I didnt like him in the Delta Jackpot and I won't like him in any race that is over 1 mile.
