![]() The Keeneland September 2016 Yearling Sale Topper $3,000,000
![]() ![]() ![]() American Champion ![]() Grade 1 winner Grade 2 winner on 2 continents Stakes winner in 4 countries, America Ireland, England and Dubai, Graded stakes winner in 3 countries Mr. Magnier and his Trainer A. P.O'Brien (IRE) lead a son of Scat Daddy postward in the Derby of Roses 144, May 5, 2018: and that Champion is not named Justify MENDELSSOHN (Scat Daddy), bred and raised in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm, trained and raced in Ireland at 2. He concluded his juvenile season traveling from Ireland to California to race and win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (BCJ-G1T). Having wintered in Ireland, the colt traveled to Dubai, accumulating the points needed to return to America and win Kentucky Derby 144 on May 5th, in bluegrass country, at Churchill Downs. Mendelssohn showed through is win in the desert, following the championship performance at Del Mar; that the high price considered for yet untested pedigree, was indeed a rewarding gamble and his win in the derby would add that much more to the meandering thoughts of Scat Daddy. WHOS YOUR PICK IN DERBY 144..why ? Last edited by Secretriat34 : 04-09-2018 at 03:47 PM. |

'Cause the closest Mendelssohn came to winning a Group 1 in England saw him about 3 lengths behind US Navy Flag at Newmarket. |

![]() I recollected in error, thinking that Mendy had won the sprint in Dewhurst. But Aiden had the us navy flag cranked for his run against his other charge..
so your gonna go with US Navy flag off his sprint win. I supposed you picked LOST IN THE FOG as well for the derby win back then as well |

![]() What a difference the blinkers made for Mendelssohn.
After laying an egg @ Doncaster,AOB added the blinks in the Dewhurst and voila...........brand spanking new horse. Amazingly in two races[not counting the prep] the 3 mill. spent on the Beholder half now seems like money well spent. But which way to go in the Derby ? Positive: Unlike the other Dubai Derby shippers before him,Mendelssohn has already shipped to the states and won. Negative: Betting on horses who cashed in on a strong track bias in their next race is usually a recipe for disaster. Tough call..... |

![]() he not only traveled to the states he was foaled in Kentucky, then shipped to Ireland at 2. I dont think a Breeders cup champion has ever won the UAE derby and the Roses.
Street cry, won the bcj, the derby and the travers..prepping at keeneland on the crap. I would be surprised if he does not hit the board. has a bcj champ running in the derby ever not...i dont know ? his last prep was 1 3/16 th... so you have a non raced 2 year old racing with lasix, (justify) winning in SA against Bolt , you left his derby win in the san felipe injuring Mckenzie along the way, against a proven champion running without lasix you cannot leave him off your ticket in the win spot. history is not in your corner here...but this one is a bit different. |

![]() was this not his first back off his bcjt win...a warmup to stretch his legs ?
what about navy flag...was this his first race on 2018? in any event 7f is 660 yards short of the derby distance. i like the scat daddy beholder at 10f |
