![]() They’ve cut down on the max. used to be what you said. 18 for place is better than 15 around here. 8 on show . 100 -1 on doubles 50-1 on exactas. There aren’t many real bookies left. Most players have adjusted to the technology and use the ADW. Most locals have a site where you can call or just go on the site on your phone or device. They don’t work , just pay and collect. It’s the golden age for those guys. You can post cash , or bet on credit with a limit and just settle on tues or Wednesday or whatever. It’s a lot easier punching out those $20 exacta boxes on the computer when you don’t have to put the money up til payday. As always if the bookies don’t get stiffed once in a awhile , they are not extending enough credit. Real old time bookies always wiped the slate clean at Christmas so you would be around for another year.

![]() I don't know any bookie who will take a horse bet around here. They do all football, basketball and baseball.
However, I read an interesting article from the UK that said 99% of the betting public would rather bet with bookmakers because of locked-in odds. Why can't we do that here ? I could have an account with a legal shop and get 5-1 and stick to it. Wouldn't have to see odds change during race. They could do this and not hurt tracks or horsemen. Then we could shop for odds. When I lived in UK, I would shop around the bookies on the apron for a good price on the horse I liked. Tic-Tac man used to freak me out. But actually got to learn some of the signal code and it was very informative. |
