Default 3/13: Aqueduct (6th-9th)

Ticket-building efforts were sloppy Wednesday but still was able to eke out some profit with P4 and consos boosting returns. Interesting to note what Mike Welsch pointed out Tuesday regarding power of favorites and likely types as the 'prime' portion of the Gulfstream meet starts to draw toward a close. Hope everyone did well..

Highlight Wednesday was obviously the dominant performance of Ron Sanchez' Social Inclusion over Honor Code. Andy Beyer quickly calculated a 111 figure for the track record performance, the biggest number ever for a non-stake route at GP. As noted Wednesday, it was indeed Rontos Racing that was eager to make the ALW go as signaled by their entering of Specialnightaction and their Pioneerof the Nile colt will most be getting a Derby point audition next out. With the FL Derby just 17 days away however, Manny Azpurua and Sanchez may have to opt for a trip out of town April 5th (Wood Memorial) or 12th (Arkansas Derby).

AQUEDUCT

POST-SCRATCHES

6th: S/ALW, F&M-4+, 1m-70y (P4, P3, DD)

Most Likely: #2 Very Cherry Candy 2-1 WON ($6.30)
Next Best: #4 Darnley Bay 7-2 4th
Exotics Use: #6 Amulay 3-1 2nd
Super Add: #5 Prize Taker 5-1 3rd

7th: CLM, 4+, 8.5f (P3, DD)

Notable here is effect of Martin Panza on the condition book as many more "straight" claiming races are being written. Examine PP's carefully for possible clues to horses that are exiting easier or tougher spots. In this case, Mystic Strike (first time Jacobson) and Aussi Austin (freshened) have been keeping better company..

Best Value: #1 Mystic Strike 5-1 DNF-Eased
Next Best: #5 Aussi Austin 5-2 WON ($5.40)
Exotics Use: #7 Photon 8-1 2nd
Super Add: #6 Writingonthewall 2-1 6th

8th: NY-ALW/N1X, F&M-4+, 6f (DD)

Most Likely: #7 Kilnockagain 2-1 4th
Next Best: #3 Spinit to Winit 9-5 WON ($5.80)
Best Value: #1 Imagine Tomorrow VET SCR
Exotics Use: #6 White Crane 3-1 3rd

9th: MCLM/$40k, F&M-3+, 6f

Conzig well overdue but Domino finally adds blinkers. Linda Rice 2nd timer (37%; $2.66) Cajun Wedding drops in and retains J. Ortiz..

Best Value: #8 Cajun Wedding 6-1 6th
Next Best: #3 Conzig 5-2 WON ($6.20)
Exotics Use: #5 Miss Red Cloud 7-2 5th
Super Add: #1 Di Lissa 4-1 3rd

Steve- is the must pay day for GP known? It has to be either the end of the main meet coming up soon or the flip of the FL season in June, right?

Funny you ask.. Came up again on twitter as Welsch updated that no decision yet made. June 29 by statute is when meet ends but they are considering an earlier 'forced distribution' closer to the more traditional end of the winter meet.

That's what I thought... From a business perspective one would think the earlier date makes sense since focus would still be down there. I would think either 4/5, 4/6, or 4/12 would make the most sense, as to avoid Palm/Easter Sunday so NY players can get involved with the arcane laws still on the books.

If the jackpot carries until then handle could be in the $20 million range.

Florida Derby day would definitely get a lot of money in the pool.
