Default ATR Guest Handicapper Today

How can a guest handicapper share information on a radio show about a horse he likes at Monmouth on Saturday and not know the name of the horse and when the host identifies the name still sound indecisive. ATR has a reputation and respect among the horse racing community. Please do some preparation to maintain some personal credibility

The guy you're talking about on Steve's show (Jay Frederick) had a nice day today:

http://theracingstandard.blogspot.com/

His "Most Likely winner" of the card won and paid $3.80 in Race #4 and his "Best upset chance" of the card won and paid $30.40 in Race #2.

Your criticism is a bit silly because of the context. Steve asked the guy if he had any interesting weekend plays for the viewers, and he said he did, a first-time-turf horse at Monmouth running in the Jersey Derby, out of the dam On The Bus...but the name of the horse escaped him. So, Steve took a second to look at the race and said "you have to be talking about Golden Jason"

On the same show today, Mike Welsch was asked if any two-year-olds have impressed him, and he mentioned that he saw an impressive gate work today by a 2-year-old of Pletcher, but couldn't remember the name.

I know, myself, I have about 500 horses in my stable-mail, and these horses are spread throughout the entire country.

Don't usually weigh in with a negative vibe but I have to pile on here. I've seen Steve prepare for a show and if he had to ask every question ahead of time the day would have to be 40 hours long. He gets up at 4 am and is "on" all day usually with several days worth of forms.

I think the preparation you are looking for is isle 3 at the pharmacy and ends with "H" because you sir are an a**.

Agree completely. Petty, absurd criticism.

BTW called Weekend Hideaway "Country Hideaway" on-air today.

NYRA has a reputation and respect among the horse racing community. Not sure how much longer they will tolerate this type of bologna.

Luckily, Jason Blewitt was Johnny on the spot to correct him.

Because I have made that same mistake at least ten times. I have a mental block with that horse.

I'm ashamed.

This is a micro-criticism. As Doug points out, everyone that does any of this work will misstate a name or draw a blank when reaching for a thought. Happens to me a couple times a day and I have the benefit of a computer in front of me. Plus, the guests on the show generally don't know if I'm going to go in a different direction on occasion and have to react to whatever I send their way. Jay is fairly new to the on-air visits and has always been well prepared. Most importantly, he had winning opinions to proffer.

Thanks for the feedback. The name escaped me at the time because I didn't have the past performances for Monmouth in front of me.

I thought the horse was interesting to mention as Saratoga was running a turf stake yesterday named for his dam and he is making his turf debut today. That horse is Golden Jason in the 11th race.

In any future visits I'll try and be more prepared to maintain some personal credibility.

Jay you do a fine job, you give DT'ERS more winners than that guy can ever think of. Keep up the good work.

The only thing you need to get right is the race and program number when you bet. That's it! Names and colors are only important for zenyatta fans.

So it's almost like it's a live, unscripted show, and human beings aren't machines ready to copy and verbally paste every nugget of information they've come across at the drop of a dime?

Odd.

I'm sure there is enough tongue in cheek action here, but you're fine. You're doing good work, and failing to come up with the name of a single horse when you look at hundreds of them a week, every week, should hardly be viewed as a sign of unpreparedness.

Keep it up, Jay.

You were wrong posting this but 100% right about the ball busting. That's what happens when you have "moderators" that can delete anything they don't agree with because they think it's insulting yet throw out their own insults anytime they want. Welcome to the internet where you can say anything you want about somebody while hiding behind a screen name.

Steve's show always has the feel of a relaxing discussion at the track or watering hole. Steve you are to be congratulated for making it all look and sound so easy. Just as in shared conversations with friends, names will be forgotten: "you know who I'm talking about" is not an uncommon remark made among friends.

Jay great work! I enjoy listening to your segment.

One good thing about Siena 16's whining is I did learn of Jay's Blog!
