![]() In this morning's Bakersfield newspaper, I read that our county-run ITW is thinking about closing.
All ITW bettors would be forced to drive over 100 miles to Fresno or to Santa Anita to wager. I did comment in the local newspaper internet "forum" about how this is not a good move. I don't believe very many locals would be sympathetic to a degenerate gambler's withdrawal pleas so I was hoping I might get a few ideas from the Derby Trail about more persuasive arguments I should use. Or better yet drop my local paper a comment: http://www.bakersfieldcalifornian.co...llite-wagering Thanks! |

i'm sympathetic to the idea of potenially losing a circle of friends you may have at this particular location. i feel bad for you if that's the case. but the idea that anyone owning a computer has to drive 100 miles to make a bet on a race isn't your strongest argument. the existence of account wagering in california is going to be a contributing factor if the site closes. the only time i step into the ventura offsite facility anymore is during the fair. times change. |

![]() Contact Bob Baedeker. He is in charge of opening offtrack locations at bars or restaurants for Ca. If there are going to close your ITW, this would be perfect.

![]() As an occasional patron of the Bakersfield ITW, I can understand why they want to close it, both aesthetically and from an attendance standpoint. Your best bet would be to hope (or lobby) that they put it into one of the restaurants in town, that's what they did when they closed our local fairgrounds in Santa Maria, and moved it to the local Roadhouse Grill. It's a nicer (albeit smaller) room and there's no admission charge.
