Default Pletcher really couldnt prepare for Sandy like the other trainers?

http://m.espn.go.com/general/horse/s...toryId=8569421

So Pletcher couldn't fly his horses out early like the other NY-based trainers? Depending on how bad the storm is, do his entrants scratch out of Friday's races? Maybe even Saturday's? I don't get how the other trainers could arrange to get a flight out before the storm hits and he couldn't. Someone in his camp fd up

The BC has already said they will just meet the horses at the airport, no problem with late arrivals for any of the trainers.

That's fine assuming Sandy doesn't f everything up for 2-3 days after. Even if things aren't too bad you're really cutting things close. But you'd know more than me-

How much does cross-country travel and a lack of time to get a horse acclimated to its new surroundings play into performance? Or are those non-factors?

Hey, flying a horse for 4-6 hours is easier on it than standing in a van for days. Just like you.

The horses that arrived last night are on YouTube comfortable at Santa Anita. The horses that will travel in and race the day before have the advantage of their home track, home routine, etc. Not all trainers want acclimating days, some do want to fly in day before and race.

Depends upon the horse. Chuck sent a good one to Japan, he can speak of it far better than I.

The spots on the plane were reserved way before the hurricane. Its not as easy as just putting your horse on there when you feel like it. We got very lucky that they allowed the plane to leave earlier than normal so we could get there or we would all be out of luck. Up until yesterday afternoon the plane was not willing to leave any earlier than the scheduled time of 6 am. Vanning at this point not an option

I never thought vanning the horses cross country or even to Kentucky was an option, but I assumed an extra payment would make an earlier flight possible???

Shipping the horses on Wed is probably an advantage but having them deal with a hurricane and winds and potentially hampered training on Tuesday and Wed would be a bigger deal IMO. The later you get there the better unless you arrive a few weeks before.
