Default 2013 Breeders' Cup

The Breeders’ Cup board of directors was expected to vote on Thursday on the selection of a host site for the 2013 year-end event, with the option of choosing among Churchill Downs in Louisville, Santa Anita Park in Southern California, and Monmouth Park in New Jersey, according to officials.

Breeders’ Cup has asked the host sites to consider holding the two-day event on either the first Friday and Saturday in November or the second Friday and Saturday in that month, according to officials. The post times of the event on the two Saturdays will differ because of television commitments on NBC, the officials said.

Why does the Breeder's Cup hate NY? I guess they have no interest in putting a show on in the biggest stage in the country, incredible.

It really is getting absurd and so obvious politically motivated.

Have it at Pimlico.

Open up the infield and bring back the BYOB for a day.

You'll have 110K people.

You get a lot of logical results on that main track and turf course during big races. It's pretty much a neutral course for everyone because serious race horses haven't been based in Maryland in a very long time.

The city of Baltimore is fine.

Obviously the facility and surrounding environment won't work with the lame image they are using to try and market the event.

I like this part

Monmouth Park does not currently have lights, but officials said this week that the track has committed to investing in lighting if it wins the 2013 event.

So they shouldn't be maximizing their bottom line? Wouldn't that be the best thing they could do to address their so called "issues?"

Nick.. The host track makes very little and frequently nothing holding the Cup. It's strictly about accomodating your regional customer base and general prestige of having the worldwide industry as your guest. As an economic vehicle, it's a lemon and giant pain in the ass for the host track.

The Breeder's Cup essentially rents the track for the two days and nearly all of the profit goes to them. It is not a money maker for any host.

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

I'll play along though,
First thing is, there is no comparison size wise between Belmont and Saratoga, so based on a pure buisness decision the BC will choose Belmont 100 times out of 100.

Then there is the whole logistics of the deal, why in the world would NYRA want to ship everything upstate again when they will already be at the better suited facility? Like Paul said, the event is a loser for the host. Now you want them to re-open Saratoga for a 2 day event?

But you're right it's not you

Maybe you should consider nominating Suffolk next time...................

Don't be too quick there. Suffolk could be a world class resort soon.
