Default You want "mainstream" media coverage, eh?

We're so eager for mainstream coverage of the game...

Be sure to read the comments under Yahoo's featured coverage of the Bourbon which is currently in rotation on their home page...

Video: While leading race, jockey thrown over infield rail by horse
By Chris Chase

Julien Leparoux and his mount, Here Comes Frazier, had led all the way in the Bourbon Stakes. Coming down the homestretch, the jockey and colt appeared to be riding to victory when Leparoux was suddenly thrown from the saddle and launched over the infield rail.

My favorite:

"This idiot did not fall off of a horse - HE JUMPED OFF! Thats how jockeys determine who's gonna win on any given day. (a birthday, anniversary, needs mortgage money) This jockey was clearly standing up and holding the horse back for most of the race. The only way to lose is make it look good by jumping over the rail. To bad the horse gets hurt when the peckerhead jockey steers it to close to the rail for his jump."

Wouldn't the type of comments be telling as to why the sport doesn't get mainstream media coverage?

I think HBO's Luck will do more for mainstream awareness of racing than just about anything else out there, at least based on what I've been told by industry folks that have previewed it. Here's hoping.

All Yahoo stories get crazy comments like this. It is some of the best free entertainment around. Check out some of the political articles.

The sport obviously deserves the derision. I apologize if my view that a trainer should be fined and suspended for not doing his job should be mandatory in a sport where people put their faith in said trainer DOING A BASIC TRAINING TECHNIQUE THAT GETS HORSES READY TO RACE FOR MONEY.

Jesustapdancingchrist it's borderline fraud not to train a horse with a whip.

Or are the rest of you conditioned with this PETA-vagina morphing nonsense?

Said trainer has embarked on a sickening political correctness tour in an attempt to get clients who may be similarly inclined. He is now against Lasix, whips and as has been the case for years, the truth.

He's been a polarizing figure for quite some time. From what I gathered during my time working on track is that people either loved or hated the guy. There really was no in-between and indifference was minimal.

I can only speak on his actions or lack thereof...and that incident was an absolute embarrassment.

I saw an article on the Here Comes Frazier incident in the Courier-Journal, and the first comment was some PETA nut about how whipping and this sport were just the great Satan (we use animals for entertainment! How awful! ) . I've only just recovered from hitting my head really hard with the palm of my hand, followed by the table.
