Default New Voting restrictions being passed

This is an editorial from the St. Petersburg, Florida Times.

New restrictions to the right to vote are a result of the last Republican Governors Association convention, where GOP Govs. were advised to try and implement such before the 2012 elections, as these measures tend to disinfranchise voters that tend to vote Democratic the most. Other states currently are trying to implement the same type of new restrictions.

Republicans claim that the changes are necessary to address voter fraud. That's a laughable contention, dispelled by the Florida Department of State, which reports that only 31 cases were referred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for investigation between January 2008 and March 2011. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Florida. Besides, voting by absentee ballot is most the susceptible to fraud, since no one sees whether the named voter is the one who fills out his ballot. Yet Republicans had no interest in putting new safeguards on absentee voting.

it is wrong and could be solved by simply requiring a driver's license or state id. Want to vote get one of the two. Early votes would have a fill in your number option. A computer would be able to determine duplicate votes and information could be shared with law enforcement to identify and locate criminals and terrorists. This should be a problem easily solved.
