Default High Fly's stallion career abandoned; Returns to Live Oak

Rather than force the issue and try to force feed him as even a regional sire, they gelded High Fly and have him back on the farm... Be sure to read Bruce Hill's quotes within the story about what the life of sire is like.

Young sire High Fly pensioned, gelded
by Jeff Lowe

Grade 1 winner and young sire High Fly has returned to owner Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Stud in Ocala after a stint in Indiana, but he will not continue as a stallion. In fact, the 2005 Florida Derby (G1) and Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner has been gelded, Live Oak General Manager Bruce Hill said. “He’s turned out with Revved Up, so we have two of our nice racehorses turned out together,” Hill said of the pairing of High Fly, who earned $927,300, with Revved Up, a 13-time stakes winner who banked $1,548,653.

I loved Highfly, and wondered why i never really came across any of his offspring this past year as 2-year olds. I realized his pedigree was pretty modest compared to the results he had on the track.

Looking back, that was a pretty weak crop of 3-year olds in Florida that spring, but he was fun to watch.

Not only that, but what he said about doing right by the industry. Wow.

Does this mean we have to start looking for a stable buddy for you cause, if so, I think Alan might be available pretty soon...
