![]() ELMONT, N.Y. – X-rays were negative on jockey Jorge Chavez, a winner of 18 New York riding titles, after a spill that occurred Wednesday, September 22 at Belmont Park. He has been released from North Shore Hospital in Manhasset and is cleared to ride Thursday.The 48-year-old Peruvian jockey was riding Pea Stone for trainer Faustino Ramos when the 2-1 favorite fell going around the far turn in Belmont’s fifth race, a $25,000 turf claiming event on the Widener Turf Course. Pea Stone, a 4-year-old daughter of Smart Strike, was euthanized after suffering a compound fracture of her left front leg.

![]() it really was. he is a very tough guy. works as hard as anyone. i'm about to turn 48 and i can't see myself riding race horses. its a good day when i can make it to the track. too bad the horse did not make it.
