Default Salvatore: PID trying to improve

PID makes strides to improve product on track
By Doug Salvatore

http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...39/-1/SPORTS13

Earlier this year, the Horseplayers Association of North America ranked 65 North American thoroughbred tracks from best to worst.

They based their rankings on just three factors: field size, takeout and wager menu. Presque Isle Downs scored 62nd in North America and 58th out of the 59 thoroughbred tracks in the United States, besting only Colorado's obscure Arapahoe Park.

Even with big slots-fueled purses and a highly touted synthetic track to help attract quality horses, the Downs 2008 race meet was a monumental failure in terms of producing a good product for customers.

Great article. Hopefully the 4 readers of the Erie Times-News' racing coverage enjoyed it as much as I did.

I clicked on the link, the coverage must have at least doubled, maybe even double digits.

Erie is a rapid racing crazy city. Not only did Beyer grow up there .. but DT's own Ogygian is from here as well.

Plus, it's within short driving distance of Mortimer's stomping grounds.
