Default Quality Road-Distance-?????

I'm still not sure if he's a true distance horse. The Derby/Belmont really don't fit his mold. He's very big though and towered over Pletcher's piece in the lane. I'm curious to see Shug's peice saturday in the wood. Is was sad to see Todd Pletcher complaining on ESPN about the fast track and conditions. Hey Todd, from 99 to 05 you never opened your mouth up at Saratoga when every weekend the track was super tight and snug. Did anyone see Hank Goldberg, he was so nervous and lost the miro-phone was shaking. Put down the bud lights. Wow.........

He'll win 2/3 of the Triple Crown, then fade in the stretch of the Belmont and lose in a heartbreaking fashion.

It could happen.

He could be a tiny bit short of 10 furlongs distance, but his speed probably assures him a good enough trip to more than offset that. If he does win the first two legs, he is a bet against in the Belmont.

someone at espn did something very bad and hank holds the evidence.

there's no other explanation for his presence on horse racing broadcasts while kenny mayne is nowhere to be seen.

hank's unattracive, inarticulate, and 3/4 of this board could do a better job handicapping big races.

Hank owns the Zito horse that went in the nightcap Saturday at GP. He was all excited... Dancing Luca.

As to the thread topic at hand... "Not a distance horse"? Quality Road has the perfect type of modern Classics pedigree with the speedy sire influence (Elusive Quality) and classy stamina female famliy.

Hasn't this been covered? His dam Kobla (by Strawberry Road), is Ajina's full sister. The 1997 Champion 3yo filly... Won BC Distaff.. Coaching Club American Oaks (12f).. Mother Goose.. etc..

Gulfstream reminds of the old days of Keeneland before the surface change. Ridiculously fast and speed favoring. Keeneland preps didnt exactly fare well back then for speed favoring winners.

Not to interupt with reality, but Barbaro (2006) and Big Brown (2008) were pretty solid off their Gulfstream form going forward to Kentucky.

There is basically no comparison between the current GP oval and the old Keeneland. That surface was one of a kind.

From the stuff I use for pedigree analysis, Quality Road isn't the super stamina packed horse that some are proclaiming. They had a big article (bloodhorse?) about how great a distance pedigree QR has noting similar facts as above. I have him rated about mid-pack, a little on the high side, but not high enough to exclude him. His pedigree says he should peak about a mile maybe 1 1/16th. 12 furlongs would be really tough (on paper). I've heard just about all of the contenders hyped as that they "should get the derby distance" and a lot of them are questionmarks. I Want Revenge is a good example. Quality Road was a question, but speed favoring track or not, he looked strong going 2-turns 9furlongs. Form trumps pedigree.

Watching the horse run and forgetting about pedigree, he is very strong and doesn't quit. He's like that running back that drags the first tackler forward. Quality road drags that first 1/16th forward with him. Even in his second race when he tired a little, he didn't stop, and he beat the other horse for place. He seems like the type to keep trying and he can get about another furlong that way.
