Default Worst Trip in the History of Horse Racing !!!

Deleware Race # 7 Earlier today

# 1 Great Kate Above

the chart does this horse NO JUSTICE, i hope some of the pro's like BTW and fatman, look at the race and tell me what they think. I had a small win/place bet on him, he was bet strong went from 10-1 down to 5-1 in a matter of 2 min. I liked his last 2 and thought he could win, HORRIBLE TRIP, i think he was much the best

The chart looks to me like she had the recipe of a bad trip.

From 4th by a head at the 1/4, to dead last of 8 at the 3/4, and then going 5 wide to catch 2nd by a head. The winner went 4 wide.

Chart seems to hint the 56-1 shot that went to the lead and stopped at the 3/4 really muffed things up.

I found the race on calracing.com. The 56-1 shot that stopped did most impair your horse of the entire field. The jockey for your horse was committed to the rail when the horses bunched up, and had nowhere to go but back and out when the longshot leader stopped.

You did catch your place bet at least.

And it did look like your horse was ready to go.

The chart doesn't catch it, but "Kate" essentially had moved to 3rd less than two lengths from the lead and was full of run before she had to take back to last between the 1/2 and 3/4.

Nuff said. No horse can overcome that kind of trouble.

I'd be interested in CJ's take on the race. Specifically, if he thought the 1 had the worst of it in terms of 'pace'.

The chart for the race is wrong: going 8.5F the points of call are supposed to match the fractional points; the 1 was even with the 10 after 6F and was 3rd, 2 lengths behind at the 8F call. It looks real good on the chart having her pass 3 horses the last sixteenth but she really only passed ONE horse the last sixteenth and passed the others between the 6F and 8F calls.

Combine shitty data with poor race watching skills (or no race watching and reliance on data and ratings derived from it) and we get a sense of why the game is beyond challenging.

Great Kate Above had lengths the best trip save being shuffled 1 1/2 to 2 lengths on the turn. With a 100% perfect trip she would have won but all things considered she ran about where she probably should have.

I understand it might have been frustrating to bet the horse, though you know how I feel about jockeys who insist on jamming their horses inside on the turf, but after the race is over you have to look at the trip in its entirety. Great Kate Above had some trouble.....but a lot more things went right for her.

man, you're just a paradoxer.

you have a horse that loses ground at a key point in the race and you're going on about it being an advantage. context tripping/handicapping? fooeey.

The horse saved ground the whole way and got a perfect trip save a mild shuffle.

Would it have done better if it was clear but also four wide on the first turn?

Not only does this filly NOT win if she got anything other than a perfect suckup trip BUT she wouldn't have won if she was able to bid with the others midturn, at the end of her perfect trip.

But you know all that, 'cause it's obvious.

As for those to which it is not obvious: what are you doing playing the game?

That's funny, and now that we know he is getting better, it's really funny.

To me, when she came up on the stopping leader longshot, that was more than a shuffle.

Whether she would have/could have won or not was not the question.

She did have a bad trip.

Worst in history can certainly be debated.

I'd be curious about anyone's thoughts about playing her next time she runs.

I'll commit and say my inclination would be to stay away from wagering on her if she comes back to the track against remotely similar company anytime in the next 21 days to possibly a month.

She just ran two races in 17 days, and my handicapping self at this time would think that one took alot out of her.
