Default Opinion on Rolling Doubles?

Seems like this is the new hot thing for tracks to do. Wondering what people think about it. Arlington's early/late DD get about 20k, where the others throughout the card get about 5k. I think that 5k throughout the card, is getting pulled away from the P3.....

I think I would rather see them have an early/midday/late DD then rolling DD's, to keep some of the money within the P3 pools instead

Honestly, I just don't have the bank roll for pick 3's, 4's or 6's so I like it.

It's the poor man's pick 3.

With a better payout also....P3 and P4's are for people that have strong opinions LATER within the sequence. Example, a 10/1 ML that looks like he will be 5/1 closing, that is value.

So many people play the first couple legs and then in teh last leg throw in the two/three favorites because their is no information available to them.

I have almost completely stopped betting Tri's, and I am trying to completely stop betting Exacta's, although I have recently eliminated the place bet from my repetitore (unless the horse is 8/1 or better) and started boxing horses in the exacta with what I was going to do with place money so for example

$100 Win 1
$25 exacta box 1 with 2,3

instead of $100 Win/Place 1

I like checking doubles probables for decent payouts, but I could see where it could draw away from other pools.

I need to get better at the pick3's

I focus on maybe one race in the card. If that race has a weak favorite, I should probably be trying to incorporate a pick 3 wager.

The rolling doubles, as opposed to having only early/middle/late doubles, undoubtedly dilutes the double pools (although I'm sure that it increases the gross amount wagered on doubles, which the tracks must like), but I've sometimes found them useful to use as backups to my main plays.

Instead of backing up my main pick by playing it on the bottom of exactas, for example, I'll sometimes use my second pick in double bets paired with others in the next race. This is most useful for me in those situations where I think my main pick will either win or run out of the money.

If my second pick (the one I used in the double bets) wins the current race, then I've already got backup bets in play for the next race.

I'm for as many wagering options as possible as long as pool size doesn't suffer too much. . .

The rolling double works for me when I get kicked out of the pick four in the second or third leg, or if I have a strong opinion on consecutive races, but not on a third or fourth in a row.

I think that they are a good idea. The hard-core players will continue to bet the pick 3's and 4's. But this might be good for the novice/weekend warriors that do not have the bankroll or the time to handicap 3-4 races ahead of time. Overtime maybe some of these people will like the multi race wagers and starting trying pick 3's 4's and 6's.

I like them, I find it's a good way to keep money in your pocket. Alot of times if I really like a horse I will play a $40-$50 DD to a horse i like and that saves me from making a $200-300 win bet. But of course you have to put 2 winners together which is easier said than done. also can find some value with a big fav in a small field, where as the inter-race wagers ( exactas & tris ) there is none.

i like them. we don't get them in ny. the low pool ones are the best to hit if you got a good longshot or two is even better. its the reason i bet the mid day one here the most. the mid day double gets ignored, at saratoga i've caught some great ones when i had the right overlay. the pool maybe low but you get a good portion of it with the right combo.

I like it, as sometimes I like a price horse that's not in the standard daily doubles. That way you can hedge a pick 3 with the double and still come out ahead.

Me too Bobby. I'm intrigued by both Pick-3's and Pick-4's. I've been investing more and more on these wagers and have been getting beat. That's why I take my hat off to many on here who hit them and hit them well.
One of these days I'll nail one.
