![]() I could not help but to be drawn to this great quote that an idiot wrote to a "letter to the Editor" in the San Diego paper after railing against horse racing and its cruelty.
"We should be more humane to all animals, whether they are ridden by us or eaten by us." Eat me -please ![]()

![]() I wonder if the horses in Japan know they better do well or they'll be dinner? Maybe they are shown a knife and fork before the race.

![]() i'm confused.
we don't like peta because of their extremist rhetoric and simple minded approach to a complex issue. but we mock a simple statement against needless cruelty? maybe the entire letter was idiotic but that quote standing alone seems to be something no one would disagree with. i don't want the cow tortured before i have dinner. i just want dinner. try not to adopt the most ridiculous aspects of your opponent in a debate. i'm sure peta would love to put the first posts here in another fund raising letter to show the kind of people they're up against. |

![]() God..have a read...but I still think the quote is idiotic and hypocritical along with some other interesting comments....
I think the final quote was the least " ridiculous aspects" of the whole article - "If these horse owners love their horses so much, why are they training and racing them knowingly before their bodies have matured, subjecting them to a much greater risk of injury, and why are they breeding horses for more speed when they know it compromises their soundness? It's because of the money, plain and simple. Sure, horses on their own in a field can get injured when running and playing, but they are just being horses and doing it because they want to and that's life. Every living thing dies eventually. But horses in the racing industry do not have a choice of whether to run or not. The more expensive horses may be pampered, but they are all still exploited because the possibility of making lots and lots of money overshadows thinking of the true well-being of the horse. Horses normally can live 30 to 40 years, as opposed to the lifespan of a racehorse, which might live three or four years if he or she is lucky. Then if the racehorse is lucky enough to survive past three to four years, a lot of them when they are no longer profitable as racehorses are abandoned, neglected or sent to slaughter. For a magnificent creature such as a horse, who has served man for what seems like forever, these are not fitting endings. We should be more humane to all animals, whether they are ridden by us or eaten by us."

![]() well...i'm not sure if i'm supposed to feel bad now that i thoroughly enjoyed my steak.
i think a big part of the issue is that a horse is a beautiful animal. don't get my meaning? well...people are all for saving the dolphin, but i don't recall any save the tuna campaign. dolphins are cute, and fun to watch at sea world-therefore, they are to be left off the dinner table. sharks are seeing their numbers thinned-but those rotten bastards eat people, so no one cares that they're possibly endangered. so, now it's the horses turn. any of us who like this sport, or ride, rodeo, etc...we're all greedy, rotten, and uncaring. i guess we need to start racing cows.

![]() PETA may be "extreme", but think about the forum you guys are in...this forum is the opposite end of the spectrum. The fans here are just as extreme in their views against PETA. The people that don't have horse racing knowledge would be the middle ground between PETA and horse racing fans. I think only people like that can objectively give a non biased opinion on the issues here.
I say Derby Trail is extreme in its criticism of PETA, yet I am a horse racing fan. I just think it's ridiculous to completely bash that organization continuously even though they bring some really valid points up. |

I think you're generalizing too much. From what I've read, some people are bashing PETA's extreme views & actions, while others have acknowledged their general view on animal treatment as understandable.
