Wet weather can wreak havoc with turf racing at Fair Grounds, forcing the transfer of many scheduled races to the main track, and officials are reportedly set to explore installing a synthetic turf surface at the historic New Orleans track. They'll hear the presentation of Matty Nicholas, developer of the Saf-T-Turf course in New Zealand. Drainage is one of the major benefits of Saf-T-Turf. Engineered to provide the same feel and give as natural grass, the synthetic turf is installed over a cushioned base that has built-in drainage channels.
