Yeah they have. Typically pretty awful. Occasionally OK. I like when they use the canoe motiff the best.

I could do without the "presented by Shadwell Farm" on the logo.

Nothing.. and I mean nothing.. will be worse than "Presented by Yum! Brands"... The Darley Test Stakes or Shadwell Travers are the epitome of class and grace compared to the abomination of the "Kentucky Fried Derby"..

Why do a lot of articles..even if isn't the Kentucky Derby or Churchill website...still mention the sponsor's name when writing about the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands? Grrrrr now I'm doing it lol.

They are under something of a copyright insist... Blood-Horse and others have been told in a bit of a heavy-handed way by CDI that any mention of the race has to be written as "Kentucky Derby, Presented by Yum! Brands".

It's an utter embarassment.

Good question. Even though it is the 'official title,' journalists are not paid by the sponsor to use the name. Just referring to it as the Kentucky Derby should be sufficient, at least most of the time. --or at least after the sponsor name is included for the first reference.

That's a slippery slope to say the least. Where's the journalist integrity when an organization or sponsor can dictate to the media how something should be written/said?

The word YUM is not on the Derby logo as you posted it a few weeks ago.

Shadwell is on this logo.

I would certainly start doing that if I were 'mandated' to use the suggested phrasing.
For the BC, if I remember correctly, the Classic powered by Dodge and John Deere Turf Classic titles were used frequently as well.

Just read where deal includes sponsorship of The Suburban as well... which is cool as anything that raises the awareness and profile of the uber-historic Suburban is fine by me.

Money talks. The Derby at Epsom has a far more storied history than our Derby and for years it has been the "Vodaphone Derby" or the "Something Else Derby" because the sponsor is paying for the right to attach it's name to the race.

I do think that there is double standard re: sponsors. If the sponsor is an "upmarket" brand like deBeers or Mercedes Benz (they sponsor alot of equestrian events) or Darley or Shadwell it's fine but when it's a fast food conglomerate with a downmarket name like Yum! is not so hot.

The game needs the infusion of cash from sponsorship. Partnering with food providers 9who sell at the track) or other brands associated with both racing AND the mainstream (John Deere) makes sense. I'm not crazy about the name "KY Derby presented by Yum! Brands but their money is just as green as Rolls Royce or BMW.
