Default Prairie Meadows

Heading to Des Moines in a few weeks for business. Is Prairie Meadows worth checking out? How is the casino, specifically the poker room?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hey, it's Iowa.

Other than visiting the "Field of Dreams," or perhaps a pork celebration, what else is there worthwhile to do?

Seriously, I visited Prairie Meadows on a business trip to Iowa back in the early 1990's. I'm sure it's changed, but that night was the only night of my betting career I wagered on dogs, thoroughbreds, and quarter horses in the same evening from one venue.

But, I had a good time.

I suspect you will, too.

Go.

Hey it's my old home town, and there isn't a lot to do, but Prarie Meadows continues to do well, casino expanded 3-4 times. Paramutuel wagering is OK, operates like an OTB up on the third floor. Poker room is OK too. I'd recommend 801 Grand or The Greenbrier for dinner. Skip's for cocktails.
Good luck.

Yeah the poker room and race-book are both up on the 3rd floor. I agree with Minnskinny. Definately more of a OTB feel, but it's nice, it's clean. Des Moines... not much is goin on there, so you should go to Prairie Meadows. You'll definately get the feel that it's a nice casino that has a racetrack on the side lol. The poker room isn't huge if I remember correctly. Maybe a dozen tables... jaybe less?
