Default Next Year's BCS Title Game

I'm not sure who will represent the SEC but I think they should be a 15-20 point favorite over yet another Ohio St. team that waltzes through another sorry Big 10 schedule and gets another unearned top two BCS ranking. On the bright side, with wins against Kent St, Akron, and Youngstown, the Suckeyes are at least the unofficial champs of the state of Ohio.

Mount Union Purple Raiders are the best team in o-h-i-o.

I honestly don't think it's the Suckeyes fault that USC couldn't beat Stanford, Oklahoma couldn't beat Colorado, West Virginia couldn't beat Pitt, Missouri couldn't beat Oklahoma 1 out of 2 times, Every year at the end of the last game every single person says USC is the best team out there. The facts remain OSU is 1-2 in BCS title games... NOT oh fer. And despite the slowness of the Big 10, OSU still managed to have not one but TWO wide receivers drafted in the first round of the NFL draft last year. It's nearly impossible to find an NFL team without an OSU defensive back as well...another position not noted for slowness. (I guess NFL scouts haven't gotten the memo on the slowness of the conference!). They got some tough breaks last night.

No, it's not their fault. But, IMO, they play in one of the worst conferences, top to bottom. Generally, it's OSU and Michigan and the Nine Dwarfs. None of their other conference competition readies them for the big games. They don't help themselves by the non-conference games that they do have control over but then a lot of the high profile teams schedule pretty soft outside of conference. The difference is that a team like LSU can schedule soft non-conference teams because they know they will be extremely tested in conference games. OSU has team speed. But it's not at the overall level of the teams like LSU and Florida. It's just a notch below. There will be isolated positions that they are closer to matching up with them on occassion but overall, it's not the same.

The SEC is better. Penn State and Wisconsin aren't dwarves however. Big Ten teams beat SEC teams every single year in bowl games. Take a look at Penn State's bowl games against SEC opponents. Wisconsin and Penn State both beat SEC teams last year in bowls. Michigan beat the SEC in a bowl this year. The SEC is better I admit...but I watched the game last night and I simply did not see an overwhelming talent mismatch as I stated in another thread. They got the breaks and won. That game has an enitrely different look if a couple things break the other way...and that is usually what determines games...breaks.

Well OSU got to the title game one year before they were expected to. Most Big Ten people thought Michigan would win the Big Ten and have a chance to play in the BCS Championship game. I still think a healthy Mich team beats Ohio State.

Now Ohio State will be tested in 2008. The play at USC on 9/13, at Wisconsin on 10/4. Those are their only real tough games. Maybe at Illinois on 11/15. They will be 10-2 at worse and be playing in another BCS bowl game.

Actually a huge understatement. Ohio State was picked 3rd in the Big 10. You lose nearly all of your offense and several key guys on defense, and you should not have a great season, but they reloaded and put together a good team once again. If they could keep the key guys from this year, they would be solid next year, too, but word is they could lose 3 in the top 15 draft picks.

I know that last night was a big disappointment as Ohio State played poorly, but the best team won, and the Buckeyes had a great season once again.
